Slovinje

On the morning of 15 April 1999, members of the Yugoslav Army, backed by tanks, surrounded the village of Slovinje. Frightened by the presence of the army, the villagers began fleeing in the direction of the neighbouring village of Oklap. The next day, 16 April, members of the Yugoslav Army entered the village. They drove the villagers out of their homes and set their houses on fire. The residents of Slovinje fled to a place known as “Lugu e Demes” in a nearby forest. At about 2:00 p.m., members of the VJ came to that place, and, shooting into the air, ordered the civilians to surrender and throw everything they carried in their pockets to the ground. Thereafter they took 15 men to a clearing and began beating them. After beating them up, they ordered the men to run towards the forest, and shot at them as they were running. The mortal remains of all the 16 civilians killed in Slovinje were subsequently found at Batajnica.
